1 - How do I open an account and obtain Kiwivid hosting?
There is a Subscribe link in the upper right-hand box, next to the identification area. Subscribing opens a reserved space that will host your videos. The Kiwivid site automatically gives you KiwiPlayer, which enables you to post videos for viewing by visitors. Be sure to fill out the information forms correctly, with valid information, and be sure to read the General Use License carefully.
Please note that availability and circulating video is subject to applicable French law. Consequently you must have the corresponding rights. Especially note that the law forbids circulating and posting for viewing any content protected by copyright. You are solely responsible for your contributions.
2 - What are the advantages of opening an account?
Lots of advantages - in addition to posting videos!
Opening an account enables you to benefit from a PodCast subscription of 300 videos. You can choose your own categories and searches for your subscription. This means you can access more videos and in a way that better fits your preferences.
We also make available a private message service for you to communicate with other passionate users of Kiwivid. You will have a username that is reserved for your comments and chats. No visitor can use this username.
3 - How can I view a video in full screen?
First adapt your Internet navigator. For FireFox 2, click in the menu on
"Display/Navigation Tab", then press

There is only one and it’s free: Flash Player (
install the latest version of Flash Player) enables direct viewing of videos in your Internet navigator. KiwiPlayer is optimized for versions 8 and later versions of Flash Player.
6 - How can I read comments on a video?
All you need to do is subscribe to the corresponding RSS feed. You are immediately notified when a comment is added, regardless of whether you own the video or you have only posted a comment.
Don’t forget that between members, you can have conversations via the private message service available to you.
7 - How do tags work? What information should I supply?
Tags are keywords or expressions, separated by commas, that describe the content of a video. They are use by the Kiwivid internal search engine.
To give your video the best chance to be viewed, use words in French AND in English, use synonyms and use redundancies in the wording of the title and the description.
Don’t forget to include the name of the author or authors of the video. This is a good way to show them that you appreciate their creation ;)
8 - Any advice about titles, descriptions and categories?
Use short titles that describe the content well. Description should be a short phrase that makes the visitor want to view your video. At least one category has to be chosen, but we recommend choosing three.
9 - What is RSS?
RSS is a technology that enables visitors to a site to monitor the latest news without having to supply personal data (such as an e-mail address). On Kiwivid you can stay informed about new videos posted in a category and new videos which correspond to precise search criteria, while also keeping up with new comments posted.
10 - How do I subscribe to an RSS feed?
The Internet navigator FireFox 2 (
install Firefox) handles this technology easily, whatever your platform and OS. We recommend installing the Sage extension (
install Sage), which has rapidly become indispensable for effectively managing this technology ;)
11 - OK, I want to use FireFox 2 and Sage to manage RSS. What do I do?
After installing FireFox 2 and Sage, click on
"Click here to install". Wait 3 seconds, then click on
"Install" in the dialog box. Restart FireFox 2 and return to the Kiwivid page where the RSS feed you are interested in is located. In the URL bar, click on the RSS icon, then choose Sage Feed in the dialog box. Confirm by clicking on
"Subscribe now", then validate with OK in the new window. You are now subscribed!
To consult the feed, click on the Sage icon (green leaf left of the URL bar), or use the shortcut
"Alt-s". A panel will open on the left showing the new feed. Choose it so that the latest news appears in the window on the right.
12 - What is podCast?
PodCast is a technology that enables owners of portable video players (like Ipods) to automatically subscribe to video streams (or feeds). When a podCast feed is updated, the new videos available are automatically transferred to your video player, and you can view them any time you want.
You are free to update during breakfast and consult the top10, the funniest videos or trailers of the coming film releases while you’re on the train to work.
The Kiwivid site enables subscription to any category, any Box of KiwiBox or to the best videos in all categories. Be careful: if you are not subscribed, you can access no more than 3 videos per feed subscription. Subscribing will enable you to access more video and manage it better.
13 - How do I subscribe to a PodCast with my Ipod?
Nothing could be simpler: start your Itunes software and slide the PodCast icon towards the Itunes software. A new Kiwivid feed will appear - you are subscribed!

Archos players will not be left out in the cold: the Archos subscription technology will soon integrated into a podCast feed.
